Abstract

This thesis analyzes the particularities of feminism in Cusco, articulating an analysis of contemporary feminist struggles with a critical rereading of the long history of gender relations in the Andes. Drawing from situated experience and a corpus of semi-structured interviews conducted with activists involved in local collectives and NGOs, it explores the tensions, alliances, divisions, and ambivalences that traverse the Cusqueño feminist landscape. By mobilizing the contributions of decolonial feminisms, this work highlights the ways in which these situated feminisms deconstruct the neocolonial imaginary of a feminism imported from the West. It also examines, at the local scale, the effects of NGO-ization on forms of mobilization and the relationships between institutional and autonomous feminists. This thesis argues for the recognition of these feminisms as rooted political practices that are multiple and bear critical knowledge.
