Instructions for authors

Submissions to Argumentos must be made exclusively through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Authors are required to register with the journal or log in if they already have an account.

The journal accepts three types of contributions (see Section Policy).

Research Articles

The following guidelines apply to research articles, which are subject to a double-blind peer review process (see Peer Review).

General requirements

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by another journal.

  • Authors must have a valid ORCID identifier.

  • Submissions must include the author’s name, institutional affiliation, ORCID, and email address.

Length and formatting

  • Length: between 7,500 and 8,500 words, including tables, figures, and references. Exceptionally, longer manuscripts may be considered.

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point, single-spaced, justified text.

  • Margins: 2.5 cm (top and bottom) and 3 cm (left and right).

  • Words in languages other than Spanish must be italicized. Direct quotations must be enclosed in angle quotation marks (« »).

Title, abstract, and keywords

  • Title and subtitles must be provided in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.

  • An abstract (maximum 200 words) must be included in all three languages.

  • At least five keywords must be provided in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.

Citation and references

  • APA style, 7th edition.

  • Only references cited in the text should be included.

  • Persistent identifiers (DOIs or URLs) should be provided whenever available.

Tables, figures, and images

  • Must be included in the manuscript and submitted separately in editable formats (e.g., Excel).

  • Must be numbered consecutively (Table 1, Figure 1, Image 1, etc.).

  • Captions must be in Times New Roman, 10-point.

  • All must include source and authorship. When based on another source, this should be indicated as: “Author’s own elaboration based on…”.

Footnotes

  • Should be used sparingly.

  • Must not include references not cited in the text.

  • Footnote markers must appear at the end of the sentence, after punctuation.

Author profile

Authors are encouraged to complete their profile on the platform, including academic and biographical information. This information is not visible to reviewers during the peer review process.


Book Reviews

The Book Reviews section publishes critical reviews of recently published books in the field of social sciences (see Section Policy).

Submissions to this section are not subject to peer review. Their relevance and quality are assessed by the Editorial Board.

Identification data

  • Full bibliographic reference of the reviewed book:
    [Last name, First name]. Book title. City: Publisher, year, total number of pages. ISBN.

  • Reviewer’s name

  • Institutional affiliation

  • ORCID

  • Email address

Length and content

  • Length: between 1,500 and 2,500 words.

The review should include:

  • General presentation of the book

  • Contextualization of the author and the work

  • Critical assessment of approach, methodology, contributions, and limitations

  • Reflection on its relevance within the field or broader debates

Style and citation

  • Clear, fluent, and analytical writing

  • Moderate use of quotations

  • Academic and respectful tone

  • Limited use of footnotes

  • APA style, 7th edition


Theses

The Theses section is devoted to the dissemination of recent postgraduate research (Master’s or PhD) successfully defended at recognized academic institutions.

Its aim is to increase the visibility of original research through the publication of condensed or adapted versions, rather than full theses.

Submissions to this section are not subject to peer review. Their relevance and quality are assessed by the Editorial Board.

Identification data

  • Title of the thesis

  • Author’s name

  • Affiliated institution

  • Degree obtained (Master’s or PhD)

  • Year of defense

  • ORCID

  • Email address

Length and content

  • Length: between 2,500 and 3,000 words (including tables, figures, and references).

The text should include:

  • Research problem

  • Objectives and theoretical framework

  • Methodology

  • Main sources (where applicable)

  • Key findings

  • Conclusions or future research directions

Style and citation

  • Clear and accessible academic writing

  • Moderate use of footnotes

  • APA style, 7th edition
