Abstract
Nicholas Robins's recent publication is surprising, primarily due to his historiographical background more closely tied to the study of Andean social movements and environmental issues. But it is even more surprising for the quality of its content. Dedicated to examining marriage, the private and daily life of Charcas during the viceregal period within the context of Bourbon reformism, the colonial crisis, and independence, Professor Robins's book joins the still meager list of materials devoted to these topics within the Andean nations.
